Community Identified Priorities

During the summer of 2026, residents, organizations, youth and service providers helped identify the priorities that will guide the Fund.

All funding requests must demonstrate how they support one or more of these community-identified priorities:

Youth Well-being, Belonging & Opportunity

Opportunities for young people to connect, participate and thrive through recreation, arts, music, technology, mentorship, leadership, employment, volunteering and other accessible programming.

Community Mental Health, Wellness & Healing

Community healing and wellness activities, counselling supports, peer support, grief and trauma supports, and individual, group and family wellness initiatives.

Community Connection & Social Cohesion

Activities that bring people together, build relationships and reduce isolation through gatherings, recreation, arts and culture, community meals, outdoor activities and intergenerational opportunities.

Strengthening Local Organizations & Community Capacity

Initiatives that strengthen the ability of local organizations and community groups to contribute to Tumbler Ridge’s recovery and long-term resilience.

Accessible & Inclusive Participation

Supports that make it easier for people to participate, including transportation, program subsidies, childcare, accessibility supports, outreach and flexible programming.

Community Resiliency, Skills & Preparedness

Training, education and initiatives that build individual and community capacity, including Psychological First Aid, trauma and grief literacy, volunteer training, leadership development and emergency preparedness.

Community Identity, Hope & Memorialization

Projects that strengthen community pride, identity and hope, including beautification, public spaces, arts, recreation, parks, community gardens and locally led legacy projects.

Choose Your Funding Stream

We recognize that projects come in different sizes and that organizations have different levels of capacity and experience. The application process has been designed so that the amount of information required increases with the size and complexity of the funding request.

Community Project – Up to $5,000

A short application for smaller community projects and initiatives.

Community Resilience – $5,001–$25,000

An expanded application for larger community initiatives.

Strategic Community Investment – Over $25,000

Larger requests begin with an Expression of Interest. Applicants with a strong fit with the Fund may then be invited to submit a full proposal.

Not sure which stream is right for your project? Contact us before applying. We’re happy to help.

Who Can Apply

Registered charities and other Canada Revenue Agency qualified donees can apply directly. This includes eligible local governments, Indigenous governments, Nations and organizations, schools, churches and other qualified donees.

Community groups and non-profit organizations that are not CRA qualified donees are also encouraged to apply. To receive funding, they will need to partner with a qualified donee willing to act as the grant holder.

If you’re not sure where your organization fits, contact us. The Foundation can help you understand your options and identify an appropriate approach.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for projects, programs and initiatives that:

  • create meaningful community benefit;
  • support healing, connection and resilience;
  • align with one or more community-identified priorities;
  • are practical, achievable and well planned; and
  • demonstrate responsible use of funds.

Applications are assessed based on their alignment with the community priorities, community impact, feasibility and value for money. Larger funding requests require a greater level of due diligence.

Already have an existing program?

You can still apply, but there must be a clear connection to Tumbler Ridge’s healing journey.

Applications simply seeking funding to continue an existing program or service will not be reviewed unless they clearly explain how the initiative is being adapted, expanded or delivered to respond to the community’s identified healing and resiliency needs

How Funding Decisions Will Be Made

The Fund was designed to keep community voices at the centre of decision-making.

Applications are reviewed by the Tumbler Ridge Community Resiliency Fund Community Advisory Committee, which brings a local perspective to the review process.

The Committee makes funding recommendations to the Northeast BC Community Foundation Board, which is responsible for final approval.

About the Fund

The Tumbler Ridge Community Resiliency Fund supports projects that strengthen healing, connection, well-being and long-term community resilience.  It invests in community-led initiatives that respond to local needs and create lasting benefits for the people of Tumbler Ridge. Funding decisions are guided by priorities identified through the community engagement process.

Community Advisory Committee

Tumbler Ridge Community Advisory Committee has been established to help guide the process and ensure local voices are reflected in funding decisions.

The committee includes representatives from the community with a range of perspectives, experiences, and connections. Members were recruited through an application process and appointed by the Northeast BC Community Foundation Board of Directors.

The committee’s role is to provide advice and local insight, help identify community priorities, support engagement efforts, and make recommendations that will help inform how the fund is used.

The Community Advisory Committee members are:

  • Melody Baynton
  • Amber Bell
  • Mark Deeley
  • Jane Miedzinski
  • Nicole Noskana
  • Katie Stelfox
  • Janice Turner
  • Joan Zimmer

Our Approach

The Foundation and the Community Advisory Committee are following a thoughtful, community-centred process.

We know that healing does not happen on a fixed timeline. Community needs may shift over the coming months and years, so the process is being designed to be both responsive and adaptive.

The engagement process focused on:

  • identifying community-defined priorities for healing and resilience;
  • ensuring diverse voices are heard, including youth and underrepresented groups;
  • creating safe and respectful opportunities for input;
  • building trust and transparency in decision-making; and
  • allowing priorities to evolve as the community’s needs change.

Community Engagement

Community Engagement was led by the Community Recovery Manager and supported by the Community Advisory Committee.

The engagement focused on gathering timely input to help identify initial funding priorities. This included targeted conversations with groups such as youth, educators, first responders, and health care workers, as well as other opportunities for residents to share what they feel the community needs.

Engagement with youth is a particular priority. The committee discussed the importance of connecting with young people in places where they feel safe and supported, including schools and youth spaces.

The process was mindful of the sensitivity of engaging directly impacted families. Input from those most affected was approached with care and, where appropriate, through existing trusted relationships and conversations.

Commitment to Transparency

The Northeast BC Community Foundation is committed to keeping the community informed as this work moves forward.

Updates will be shared as the process develops, including information about community engagement opportunities, what we are hearing from residents, and how community priorities are shaping the use of the fund.

This fund belongs to the healing journey of Tumbler Ridge. Our role is to steward it responsibly, listen carefully, and help ensure that the generosity shown to the community is directed toward meaningful, community-informed support.
